I will be starting my fourth year teaching this fall. I began my teaching career in Houston, TX where I taught 3rd grade. I then returned to my home town of Rockford, IL where I again taught 3rd grade but this time in a Charter school. While at the charter school I learned a lot about myself as a teacher and my strengths and weaknesses and that was when I realized my passion for curriculum and instruction. I then got a job in the public school system in my town and now I will start my second year teaching 2nd grade in a very low income school with some very challenging but by far the most rewarding students.I will also be starting the journey of earning my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction.
I always told my mom that I wanted to be a mom when I got older. And someday I will be a biological mother, but being a teacher is defiantly the next best thing. I have 60+ kids that I still think about and pray for, and a few whose families I still stay in contact with. Teaching has fulfilled my OCD tendencies and allowed me to use my creativity for differentiating learning for my students. Each year, I continue to grow and seek more wisdom and I love it hearing from fellow teachers on what works, doesn't work, and might work.
I hope you enjoy this journey with me and provide me with encouragement and wisdom because we all know that teachers are just lifelong learners.
:) Hillary
